A cause de la maladresse d'Homer Simpson, qui a pollué le lac, la ville de Springfield est mise en quarantaine par une organisation de protection de l'environnement. Vivant désormais sous un gigantesque dôme, les habitants, très énervés, sont décidés à faire payer le coupable. Affollée par cette vague de méchanceté, la famille Simpson n'a d'autre solution de tenter de fuir pour trouver un peu de tranquillité... en Alaska.
